Earlier this week I was asked to write an essay about a real world problem so I chose pollution, more specifically I chose Ocean pollution.
Imagine if everyone you knew came over to your house and dumped their trash in your house, you would not be too happy. Well what makes it different for aquatic animals ? Every year we dump billions of plastic into the ocean. You are probably thinking, oh I recycle though. But did you know that 80% of recycled plastic ends up in the ocean. Did you also know that streams, and rivers lead to the ocean, not a water filtration plant? Another way that you are polluting the water, and harming yourself is by washing clothes ? when you wash your clothes polyester fibers come off of your clothes, and end up in your drinking water. These polyester fibers cannot be caught with the standard filtration system but only with special filters, and laundry accessories such as a Cora ball. Plastic Bags , they get into rivers, and streams and then they break into tiny pieces, and are ingested by marine animals and then the animals die a slow painful death, or choke and die right away. Have you ever dumped anything into a storm drain? If yes you have polluted the ocean too. It should not take a company that sells bracelets to fund beach clean ups.
This is only going to get worse, that is why we need to try an live a greener life style by cutting out single use plastics.
